From September 2013, the government provided additional funding for Physical Education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and sport within primary phase schools.
Funding for schools is calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils (Years 1 to 6), as recorded in the autumn 2016 census.
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
This is how Larchwood is spending this additional funding:
- Increased participation and enjoyment of PE for all pupils during lessons and through extra–curricular opportunities
- To give all of our pupils the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities during lunchtimes via play leaders
- To embed the idea of regular exercise as an essential part of a healthy lifestyle
