As part of promoting books and the love of reading, we regularly have visits from authors. We arrange these via the Chicken and Frog bookshop, whom we work closely with, in lots of different areas.
Philip is an author, poet and the winner of the The Roald Dahl funny prize. Elissa is a children’s book illustrator and writer. For more information about both, please click on the above links. That said, words on a website would not summarise these two entirely. I have to say both were jolly nice people and not only that, they were amazing with our children. Both we would warmly welcome back. Our children had a blast.
We have had some excellent visits from authors over the years but staff were in agreement that this visit was the best we have had.
I felt the need to blog this as a permanent reminder, and also a thank you to Philip, Elissa and Natasha (from the Chicken and Frog).
Before they arrived, they had already tweeted that they were looking forward to visiting Larchwood and I was lucky enough to be mentioned in a Twitter poem!
“Running, jumping, huff and puff! We hope we meet Mister Duff!”

The talent on show during the day was clear. The child friendly approach to their visit engaged our children throughout. It was the perfect ending to the week.
Read more about their book ‘ Leafy the Pet Leaf’ here, and if you would like a copy, feel free to drop into the Chicken and Frog.
At the end of the day, both signed books for our children and we were also left with two original drawings from Elissa, that will now be framed and displayed in the school.
What a fantastic day!
